Dealspl.us asked its deal conscious members about their Black Friday shopping habits and the results were quite impressive.

64% of shoppers indicated that they would prefer to shop online on Black Friday, perhaps an indication of frustration over limited quantity doorbusters and the increasingly difficult Black Friday crowds.

Even though shoppers prefer to shop online, 44% of all respondents expressed that they still love to talk about their favorite Black Friday deals in person.

While shoppers may indicate a preference for shopping online, in reality shoppers still flocked to the stores in almost equal numbers last year. This is likely because of the rise of the cyborg shopper who shops in person but is simultaneously engaged with their mobile device for price comparisons or for finding the best deals.

Interestingly enough, only 60% of shoppers actually shopped on Black Friday while 40% shopped either pre-Black Friday sales or on Cyber Monday.

Just because shoppers are deal conscious, doesn’t mean they’re cheap. 90% of respondents said they would spend the same amount of money or more in 2013 than they did last Black Friday. 72% plan to find the best deals online whether they shop in stores or online and only 5% plan their shopping trips from from TV ads or social media. Old-fashioned printed ads still hold second place at 17%.

The 5 most popular stores for Black Friday 2012 by far were Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Kohl’s & Macy’s making up 65% of shopping visits and we expect similar results this year.

An interesting observation showed that the most popular doorbuster deals were for electronics at a whopping 60% with movies and video games adding another 10%. Clothing only made up 14% of the most anticipated doorbusters.

Waiting for Black Friday is one thing, but waiting in line is inevitable if you’re going to shop in stores. Almost 40% said they would only wait up to an hour and nearly another 40% would wait up to 3. Only the most dedicated 10% said they would actually wait 5 or more hours in line, so keep this in mind if the store you’re shopping at only carries one or two of a particular item.

We’ll be doing a follow-up survey closer to Black Friday and can’t wait to see how opinions change. If you have any questions you are dying for us to ask, let us know in the comments and share them on Facebook.

dealspl.us “Heating Up” with NEW Feature!

If you haven’t noticed, there’s a brand new feature on dealspl.us that went live last week… Heating Up! You can find it between the “Hot” and “Fresh” deals tab in bright red letters (click here to see it now)

The “Heating Up” page is a list of deals, ranked by plus’s, that are on the brink of becoming “Hot” and being put on the front page. You can either “thumb up” a deal if you think it deserves to be on the front page or “thumb down” a deal if it’s not quite front-page worthy.

When to “thumb up” a deal:
  • "I’ve never seen a better deal on this product!"
  • "A sale like this doesn’t come around often, and it stacks with coupons!"
  • "I know about these things, and this is great deal!"
When to “thumb down” a deal:
  • "Great deal, but I’ve seen better. I’d wait for a bigger price drop"
  • "There are similar items for the same price or cheaper here…"
  • "This deal/coupon is either not working or inaccurate"

We’re still testing this new feature, so feel free to try it out, and let us know what you think in the comments below, or ask any questions here!
